Suzhou The Garden City
Packing an overnight bag is not an easy thing to do afterall. We experienced it today because we had to pack our bags as we head off for an overnight stay at Suzhou but we'll leave that for later.
Following our itenary, we started the day by going to the Shanghai Bus International Travel Service Co., Ltd to understand more about the rules of the travel agencies as well as learning about the inbound and outbound tourism here in Shanghai. We were fortunate enough to have our trusty tour guide around to translate over whatever the manager said into English. If it weren't for him, I think the majority of us would not be able to catch up with what he was saying.
Next Stop: SUZHOU It took a drive of 2 hours to get there and as usual, we slept the whole way through. Slightly before arriving into Suzhou, Sam (our tour guide) gave us a brief introduction of Suzhou. We learnt that Suzhou is best-known for 3 things: their Gardens, Silk and Women. We're not too sure about the women here so we shall not comment so much about it. However, we do know that we are going to learn more about their beautiful gardens and silk. We'll blog more about it tomorrow. Another thing that we learnt from him is that the people who live in Suzhou or Hangzhou tend to have a longer life expectancy as compared to the people living in Shanghai. It probably has something to do with their living environment and the culture that they have adapted to. We finally got a chance to experience how the locals go about their lifestyle through our major shopping spree just now. We realised that the shop owners were more polite & warm and less "kanchiong" It made shopping a more joyful and relaxing experience and we definitely enjoyed ourselves.
Usually a hotel wouldn't excite us too much,BUT, this one that we were staying in was surely a headturner...not in a good way. From the outside, the architecture was stunning and it depicted the oriental look of the olden days in China. We were quite excited to check out how the rooms would look like. Little did we expect, the walls were designed in such a way that there were really weird chinese carvings in some of our rooms. Inez's room wasn't too bad because you could actually read what the words said, however for my room(natasha), the chinese characters were so cursive and massive that it gave us an eerie vibe when we entered the room. However, we got used to the environment after laying out all our shopping on the bed.
Looking forward to experience the life of a local student in Suzhou tomorrow. Hoping we would be able to make some new friends too(: Labels: Sam our guide is AWESOME

Goodbye to Shanghai PAR-VEE-LIONS
Finally it is the end of our Shanghai Expo pavilion. We spent our last day helping out our country's pavilion. We went there yesterday without having any understanding of what each section in the pavilion meant until we had a tour given by our very own fellow Singaporean students. We had a very interesting experience when Nabil decided to take the once in a lifetime opportunity to be our very own mascot in our own pavilion - 榴莲小新. It was something new to be invovled with helping out with the mascot instead of being the ones on the other end waiting and wanting to take pictures with it. After the whole interaction, we returned the mascot and proceed on to conquer the other pavilions. Today's mission: Take as many pictures with as many pavilions as possible. One of the few interesting pavilions that we managed to visit was Brunei where we sat and drank Teh Tarik Bing. Even though Brunei's pavilion wasn't very appealing, I think we will remember it because it gave us something which we were not able to find anywhere else in shanghai - sense of home.
Another pavilion that we want to talk about is New Zealand. As we were walking up to the garden, there were many slides shows of pictures showing the lifestyles of New Zealanders. All of us agreed that they believe very firmly in having strong family bonds to bring about a better future for them. I think Singaporeans should learn this from them because family bonds are better character built for the country future endeavours.
Besides visiting pavilions, we also tried to take picutres with people from the country itself. An example will be the Arabic men. Nabil made the asking easier for us by communicating with them in Arabic. Overwhelmed by our friendliness, they offered their very own national flag-like collar pin to Nabil. A funny thing that occurred during this exchange was because of Nabil's race, a local actually came forward enthusiastically, grabbed Nabil's arm and took a picture with their very own trademark tourist sign - The Peace.
That pretty much sums up what we did on the last day at Shanghai Expo. Although it was tiring for us to walk around and queue for the different pavilions (not forgetting the treatment that we get from the locals), the experience gained from it can never be found anywhere else. Through the different pavilions, we increased our knowledge on what is special about their country and got to know more about their culture. I think this world expo is something that should be carried on because it lets people know more about the different countries around the world all in one location.
P.s. Pictures will be uploaded as soon as possible. Sorry this is due to the slow internet connection in our hotel. Stay tune, SUZHOU HERE WE COMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

First 'Expo-less' Day & Our virgin ride in Shanghai (Metro)
Yay, it's Day 3 and it's a fruitful day because apart from just sight-seeing, we also went to Gallery Suites and Yu Shanghai! No Expo, no queuing and no people cutting queue! (-.-")
Our facilitators are so good today because we did not just gain head knowledge, we also had Retail Therapy @ Tao Bao City! (The place where all aunties and uncles come alive as we began to bargain for better and affordable price!)
Well, having said so, let me share with you in details about the places which we went today! ;)
1. Gallery Suites @ Heng Shan Road!
We set off from Hotel at 835am and took Metro for about 4 stations from a Metro Interchange! (Sorry, I forgot the line but I'll update once I find out.) Gallery Suites is an award-winning boutique hotel and is housed in a 1933 Heritage building on Heng Shan Road. Now it is refurbished and is an popular stylish boutique hotel among Asian and Europe etc. The concept of Galler Suites is very different from others! And, honestly one thing that caught my attention was their bathroom. There is NO room! It is a open concept and specially designed for couples! ;)
2. Tao Bao City
Ohhhh this is R E T A I L - T H E R A P Y! ;D
It was fun shopping there but the China seller are way to aggressive! I clearly remember this auntie from a particular shop located in Tao Bao, level 4 who actually screamed and yelled at me when i did not get it from her and even after her pestering. In the end, my friend and I ran out of the shop and went a level down! Tao Bao is where we get to buy everything and anything including fake goods! I'm amazed how some turn out to be so real and flawless! It was definitely an experiential shopping at Tao Bao City!
3. Cheng Huang MiaoThis place is a must- go if you love to see pagoda with colorful lighting and traditional Shanghai food! There is also mini push cart that sells souvenir which you can get for your family and friends! We reached Cheng Huang Miao at about 5pm so there wasn't much lightings yet but while we are on our way to our dinner place @ Yu Shanghai, I was captivated by the lightings and the beautiful sight of it! Man, it's really awesome and somehow the lightings add vibrant into the dull pagoda i saw earlier in the evening! We snapped so much photos and enjoyed the walking journey from Cheng Huang Miao to Yu Shanghai for dinner. :)
4. Yu Shanghai (Restaurant.Bar.Theatre)
After our free & easy time @ Cheng Huang Miao, we proceeded to Yu Shanghai for our sumptous dinner! this is the best meal we had so far in Shanghai! After which, we went to the theatre of yu shanghai, and watch a 45minutes staged performance, which allowed its audience to experience shanghai in the 1930s, back through its history. the performance comprised of a wushu inspired performance, chinese cultural dance, and the most awesome one is the Face Changing (bian lian) performance, & the change is within seconds, you would be amazed at how fast the speed is. After the performance, we went up to the top of Yu Shanghai (bar) and had a nice night view of Cheng Huang Miao from the top!
5. The Bund
We carry on our journey from Yu Shanghai to The Bund (yes, yes, it's shanghai tan!). Basically, what we did there was CAMWHORING the whole time. we saw the oriental pearl tower! The building is beautiful, but somehow i got reminded of neon light (those lighting seen outside salon.. :x) & most importantly, the night view was nice! and there was handsome photographer! ;))
So that marks the end of our trip today! happy day~

Alright mates...time check 3am...I'm feeling sleepy and frustrated... You must be wondering what did I do earlier right? Was trying to solve the blogging issue everyone was experiencing... & unfortunately I still could not solve it... Hence I'm using one of my mate laptop only after hours of struggle...
Mouth feeling like the drainage smell here due to the lack of water & change in weather... Moreover, the fear of drinking is creeping into everyone of us... WE ARE LOOKING TO AVOID TOILET SESSIONS... As you could had possibly seen or heard from the others... The toilets are either too pack or too nice for our nose to enjoy...
Anyway, My team and I visited China Pavilion today and seriously, It's not a good experience I will like to have... But as always what's the point of talking about how good something is while forgetting on it's weakness? So definitely going to comment on what I feel is needed to improve on... We queue starting from 1.30pm and ended the entire tour at 6pm... Throughout this entire 4 and a half hours... Probably only 45mins are actual viewing sessions where we get to understand more about China... It's not worth going if again if this situation does not improve... Not forgetting we are the privilege group with priority already... Those "loose" ticket holder had to wait at least 5 hrs to even enter the pavilion.... & of course when one will to hear that the average waiting time for 2005 Japan World Pavilion was only 2hrs... It's certainly sent a knocking down message to our mood. & many of us were frustrated by the amount of queue cutting experience! Anyway enough of the negative...time for some positive! =)
*waiting outside the pavilion
*Close up...Mind is the second third row from left
*After one hour we are in!
*For longer queuing session though
*After close to 2hrs we got to watch a clip on China's history
* From the Early 90s to the futuristic
*There was also a 100m+ in length 2D wall showing it's history
*National Treasure...Bing Ma Yong! *Next session - their future generations of artists
*Kids ranging from 6 years old to 15 years old art piece
*Just simply stunning and unimaginable...I was still drawing stick man back then! *Pets were allow in, definitely to our surprise!
*Next session was interesting... *Got to sit a mini roller coaster! *Well, I was kind of lost when they describe this session!
*All I manage to understand was about China's foundation was build on bridge, &
*This Chinese structure which I do not know what it's called! We do see them in the palace during movies! *Lastly, technology advancement leading to them developing environmental friendly cars! =)
*Oh yeah! So wanted to show you this! No lighters allowed! Want to smoke? Use this!
*Finally it's getting dark...at only 5plus?!?
Did you notice there was not any group photos? Simply because after the screening, which has a capacity of 700 people... everyone was separated! Not alone but into mini groups though... Hence, no group photos for now!
Okay~ I'm tired and definitely should be in bed a long time ago... Time check 3.30am...In 3 hrs...my mates will be up and getting ready for our virgin Shanghai "MRT" ride... & not forgetting the visit to a famous hotel and also "Chen Huan Miao" in the evening for dinner and SHOPPING!
Thats all folks! Do keep us in your prayer and keep coming back to team one for such fantastic committed updating! =)

They push, We siam!!
Wonder how this title came about? Well we guess you just got to carry on reading to find out. Hehe.
So, the day started with us anxiously making our way to terminal 3 to meet the rest of our coursemates. Not everybody was punctual...as usualy:p However, we did stick to our itenary and manage to get everybody checked in on time and off we went on board SQ826!!:D
As everybody know, SIA is well known for their excellent service however, we were disappointed with some of the air crew. The air steward did not look approachable when my team mates asked for assistance and they were not very efficient in delivering the service. However, all in all, we had a good flight. OH! By the way, SIA changed the layout of their aircraft. The seats are now much more comfier and they changed the colours of the seats to GOLD. ATAS SIIIAAAAA. We were also lucky enough to be able to catch the sunrise together. The view from our seats were simply spectacular:D
Upon reaching Shanghai, we were welcomed by a heavy downpour. Although it was raining heavily, the rain seemed more like mists than your usual heavy rain. We were kinda upset that it was raining because each and everyone of us were looking forward to it being hot and sunny. Not only was it raining heavily, but it was COLD. The temperature was aruiond 20 degrees and the strong wind&rain made it even colder. Despite us being used to the heat in singapore, we were actually happy that the weather changed because we could never ever dream of having this kind of weather in Singapore. We were all enjoying the breeze and huddling together for warmth.
Being first timers there, we decided to walk around to get familiar with the World Expo first before coming back on the second day. The place was massively huge and it was really like a maze. We were afraid that we would get lost because everyone was so amazed with the stunning architecture of the various pavillions, we started losing the group a few times because we were busy snapping photos for memory sake.
THIS.....my friends, is when we reveal how our title came about. We had to take a ferry from where we were to get to the other location to settle our lunch and visit the Coca Cola Pavillion. So... as we were getting off the ferry, all of us noticed something so EPIC that we couldn't believe it happened in front of our eyes. On the other side of the ferry terminal, we saw a huge MASS of locals running for their lives as though the ferry will leave in 5 seconds. Seriously, if the internet connection wasn't so laggy, we could & would have shared with you guys how enthusiastically they were running. You have to see it with your very own eyes to believe it.
Our destination was the Coca Cola Pavillion. It was really cool to see how creative the locals were to come up with an idea that attracted millions of people to queue HOURS, i mean HOURS just to enter to view the pavillion for less than half an hour. We thought that it would be boring however, it turned out to be a very interesting experience. Especially when we were taught how to shake intensively an icy cold bottle of coke to turn the gas into ICE.
Lastly we shall let the photos do the talking, before everything, stay tune while blogger gets back on track for us to upload the photos successfully!
Day 2 coming up in a few hours time, time to get our beauty sleep. Our eyes&body need all the rest that we can get! Will update you folks on our adventure Shanghai world expo 2010 hours later.
